Department Overview:
The Capital Dynamics Finance team manage all elements of operational finance, reporting and regulatory reporting obligations. Further, the team provides oversight, controls and protection to safeguard the firm’s interests and budgets while upholding the financial integrity of the business. The team also collaborates with the business and stakeholders to drive value creation and efficiencies within the wider organization, either directly or by enabling improved performance to support the firm’s continued growth. The team consists of 16 professionals who implement the oversight and control to mitigate risks while delivering on the strategic objectives of the firm.
Role Purpose:
Capital Dynamics is seeking a qualified accountant to join our Finance team in our Birmingham office in the role of Senior Financial Accountant.
The purpose of the role is to work closely with the Group Financial Accountant on all management and financial accounting activities. This will involve preparation of the monthly management reporting and the year-end statutory reporting, which will include liaising with the auditors and other teams within Finance and the organisation (locally and in our global offices), including Treasury, Legal and Operations.
The Senior Financial Accountant will contribute to shaping the finance department through ongoing development and improvement of finance processes, insightful reporting and analysis, and efficient and effective workflows.
Your responsibilities will include monitoring day-to-day transactional processing, reviewing month-end balance sheet reconciliations, preparing and reviewing monthly reporting including group consolidation, cash flow reporting, and working closely with the Group Financial Accountant and FP&A, Treasury and other colleagues to ensure robustness and consistency between data sets.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Control and ensure the integrity of all entities by maintaining and reviewing the accounting records to ensure accuracy and completeness of data, including bank reconciliations, safeguarding the assets of the company.
• Assume ownership of the balance sheet and P&L for the multiple entity environment, ensuring that all balances are understood.
• Prepare and review monthly audit files reconciling all balance sheet amounts to supporting documentation, flagging any actual or potential risks/opportunities to senior management.
• Manage and prepare all statutory financial statements ensuring that all submissions are on time, accurate and compliant.
• Lead reconciliation of intercompany positions and investigate differences where necessary.
• Prepare monthly Group management accounts and reports for the Board and Executive Committee.
• Take responsibility for project management and oversight of the UK group audit, coordinating deliverables and managing deadlines alongside the audit team.
• Prepare the monthly IFRS management reporting for selected entities in the group, and Preparation of local GAAP statutory accounts.
• Prepare and review monthly cost center P&L’s actuals versus budget reports and full year forecasting, highlighting and potential risks or opportunities.
• Liaise with tax accountants to ensure completion of Group taxes. Support the preparation of VAT reporting.
• Provide compliance with the regulatory capital calculations for the various jurisdictions.
• Liaise with the auditors ensuring smooth audit process and sign-off of the annual audits.
• Continually review the financial controls of the business ensuring they are fit for purpose and strive to make them simpler and better.
• Support the alignment of inherited processes and controls with current operations and take a proactive role in questioning processes in place with a view to continuous improvement.
• Support Finance Director and Group Financial Accountant in the maintenance and development of best-in-class Financial Controls across all accounting functions.
Key Competencies:
• Solid and thorough accounting knowledge of IFRS, (US GAAP and UK GAAP beneficial).
• Understanding of the legal and regulatory compliance framework for the asset management industry (e.g. AIFMD, FATCA) is highly advantageous.
• Understanding of controls, with an ability to critically evaluate them within a smaller organisation.
• Experience preparing or reviewing regulatory returns and working in a Financial Accounting would be advantageous.
• Ability to understand financial risk and use it to influence decisions and critically appraise processes.
• Highly analytical with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to balance multiple deadlines.
• Develop strong collaborative relationships with business leaders and colleagues across the business.
• Ability to analyze and organize large amounts of data in an efficient manner.
• Excellent attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy, quality, and integrity.
• The ability to simplify complex issues for non-finance people.
• A team player, with a strong client service mentality, as well as a willingness to participate and help others.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Educated to Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent.
• Qualified Accountant - ACA/ACCA/CIMA.
• Minimum 8 to 10 years post qualification experience (PQE), with at least the last 5 working in a financial services organisation – i.e. Private Equity, Venture Capital, Asset Management, Hedge Fund etc. preferred.
• Working knowledge of IFRS and UK accounting standards.
• Experience with NetSuite is highly desirable.
Languages:
• Must be fluent in English and display superior writing skills.
• Proficiency in another European language; Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese is highly advantageous though not essential.
