ZUG, Switzerland, January 10, 2012 – Capital Dynamics is pleased to announce that Marcelo Moraes has joined as a Managing Director and Head of Brazil, based in São Paulo. Marcelo is a member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (ABVCAP) and Chairman of the VALE Fiscal Council (the second-largest mining company in the world). He has over a decade of private equity and venture capital experience, having been a Partner and Managing Director at Stratus Group (an independent Brazilian private equity manager focused on mid-market investments) and an Investment Manager with Bradespar (a listed investment company spun out from Banco Bradesco, one of the four largest Brazilian banks).

At Stratus, among other responsibilities, Marcelo played a key role in raising and managing the Brazil Mezzanine Infrastructure Fund (managed at that time by a joint venture between Stratus and Darby Private Equity, a subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments). Representing Bradespar, he was also an Alternate Member on the Board of Directors of VALE and Net Servicos (the largest cable TV provider in Brazil) and a Non-voting Member at Finep’s INOVAR Program; as well as participating in excess of USD 3 billion of capital investment. He is also a member of the Board of São Paulo Anjos (one of Brazil’s most active angel investor Associations).

Commenting on Marcelo’s appointment, Thomas Kubr (CEO and Founder of Capital Dynamics) said: “We are delighted to have attracted someone of the caliber, reputation and breadth of investment experience of Marcelo.

We are confident that with Marcelo leading our Brazilian activities, we will enjoy greater credibility with both domestic and international investors. Furthermore, we believe Marcelo joining us demonstrates clearly our determination and commitment to building a successful business in Brazil. We now need to get on with the job in hand: playing a valuable role in the development of the Brazilian private equity industry through raising a Brazilian focused product as well as exploring a number of other opportunities that are emerging.”

Marcelo Moraes commented: “The Brazilian Private Equity market is at a point of enhancement with considerable growth and investment opportunities ahead, with institutional investors increasingly open to seeking new ideas to diversify their portfolios. The advantage of being able to address these topics as part of Capital Dynamics, with its global reach and experience, is tremendous. I am truly excited to be in a position to build a business in one of the world’s most exciting private equity markets as a member of a globally active private asset manager.”
