Role Title: Intern, Clean Energy

Location: London

Duration: 10 – 12 weeks

Clean Energy:

The Clean Energy team makes direct equity investments in carbon-reducing renewable energy power generation -- from late-stage development through to commercial operations. Capital Dynamics is one of the UK's largest onshore wind operators and has invested in one of the largest subsidy-free solar PV portfolios in Europe. The team achieves enhanced value from projects through its dedicated asset management affiliate, Netro Energy.

 

The Opportunity:

The Intern will support the Capital Dynamics – Clean Energy Investment team to perform both quantitative and qualitative assignments related to making direct investments into renewable energy generating infrastructure. You will support work streams on transactions during the due diligence phase of a deal, while also supporting on-going valuations, reporting to investors, capital raising and on-going asset management of the current portfolio.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Gain a broad, hands-on understanding of the clean energy sector markets, deal structures, and investment dynamics.

• Shadow and support the deal team on live transactions across the acquisition and divestiture lifecycle.

• Assist with the preparation of financial models to calculate project returns, including IRR and NPV analysis.

• Contribute to the financial analysis sections of Investment Committee papers.

• Support the due diligence process during acquisitions coordinating workstreams and synthesising findings.

• Conduct market analysis and research to inform the team's investment decisions.

• Leverage AI tools  including large language models (LLMs) to accelerate research, summarise documents, and support the preparation of materials.

 

 

The successful candidate will be:

• Intellectually curious, proactive, and self-motivated, eager to learn and take initiative.

• Commercially minded with a genuine desire to understand financial markets and investment management.

• Genuinely interested in private equity and the dynamics of clean energy / renewable energy market.

• Comfortable experimenting with new AI tools and technologies, and keen to apply them practically in your work.

• A clear and structured communicator - able to synthesise complex information into concise, well-presented outputs.

 

Skills and Competencies:

• Relevant prior internship experience in one or more of the following areas is beneficial:

o   Clean Energy or Infrastructure fund

o   M&A or structured/leveraged finance team of a leading investment bank

o   Transaction Services team of a leading audit firm with a focus on energy / infrastructure

o   Leading strategy consulting firm focused on energy investments

• Knowledge of financial statement analysis, valuation techniques, and competency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Good understanding of financial methodologies, such as leveraged buyout, forecasting analysis, financial statement analysis, discounted cash flow analysis.

• AI & LLM Fluency, can illustrate some practical experience using AI tools such as large language models (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), prompt engineering, or AI-assisted research workflows. Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs and apply them responsibly in a professional context.

• An understanding of the concept of value creation in investment management is desirable.

 

Education & Qualifications:

• Minimum 2:1 degree from a recognized university/college or equivalent.

• Recent MBA graduate would also be highly desirable.

• Degree subjects include Business, Finance, Responsible Investment, Renewable Energy.

• Good understanding of financial methodologies, such as leveraged buyout, forecast analysis, financial statement analysis, discounted cash flow analysis.

 

Language Requirement:

• Essential - Must be fluent in English and display superior writing skills.

• Desirable - Proficiency in another European language; preferably Spanish, Italian, German, preferred though not essential.
