Clean Energy

The Capital Dynamics Clean Energy (CE) team makes direct equity investments in carbon-reducing renewable energy power generation from late-stage development to commercial operations. Capital Dynamics is one of the largest managers of U.K. onshore wind assets and subsidy free solar PV in Europe, and has a growing footprint in the U.S. The team strives to achieve enhanced value from de-risking projects from the end of their development phases and optimizing performance and capital structure into commercial operations.

 

Role Purpose:

We are looking for a driven and commercially sharp Investment Associate to join our London-based Clean Energy team. Reporting to a Director, you will be a core member of the investment team – taking an active role across the full deal lifecycle, from origination and due diligence through to execution, financing, and post-acquisition asset management. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for someone with a genuine passion for the energy transition and the technical skills to match.

 

Key Task and Responsibilities:

Build and maintain sophisticated financial models, including automated outputs and scenario/sensitivity analysis.

• Draft Investment Committee memoranda to support acquisition and divestiture decisions.

• Lead and coordinate due diligence workstreams during deal execution, working alongside legal, tax, and technical advisors.

Support financing activities across the investment portfolio, including debt structuring.

• Conduct market research and analysis to inform investment theses and strategic decisions.

• Partner with the Asset Management team to monitor and enhance portfolio performance post-acquisition.

• Represent the team externally at conferences, meetings, and investor forums.

 

Key Competencies:

•  A demonstrable track record working on clean energy infrastructure or renewable energy deals in Europe.

• Exceptional financial modelling experience, including strong understanding of debt financing.

•  An understanding of the legal and tax framework and documentation typical of a direct / infrastructure investment.

•  Working knowledge of financial analysis ratios such as yield, IRR’s and NPV’s.

•  Good understanding of accounting, finance, company valuation and, ideally, asset management.

•  Good understanding of financial methodologies, such as leveraged buyout, forecast analysis, financial statement analysis, discounted cash flow analysis.

•  Exceptional attention to detail with ability to produce high quality work.

•  Self-starter with ability to complete tasks quickly and efficiently, having regard to changing priorities, differing time zones and geographies.

•  A keen interest in Responsible Investment (RI) / ESG and targets such as the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals or willingness to learn more about this area is highly desirable.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

Minimum bachelor degree from a top-tier university / college.

•  4 to 6 years relevant experience working in Investment Banking, Asset Management, Project Finance, or Transaction Advisory with a specific focus on energy / renewables / clean energy infrastructure investment.

•  Strong analytical skills, including financial modelling, valuation

•  Knowledge of renewable power development.

•  Good working knowledge of the support frameworks for renewables investments.

•  Sound investment judgment with a keen awareness of risk, return and exposure management.

• Exceptional proficiency MS Excel, MS Power Point and MS Word.

 

Language skills:

• Must be fluent in English and display superior verbal and written communication skills.

• Additional language skills – Italian, Spanish or German is highly desirable.

 

Further notice:

• This is an office-based role, working out of our London office 4 days per week.

• Candidate must be able to travel to our London office for in-person interviews including a 4-hour technical assessment.
